Blancpain, the title sponsor of the Peking to Paris classic car rally, was privileged to honor the two most courageous race participants, Timothey Scott and Peter Livanos, with a really special gift. Both participants were awarded with a Blancpain Leman Time Zone watch, the timepiece created specially for globetrotters.
‘Peking to Paris’ 2007 has become the third edition of the classic car race, initially held one hundred yeas ago, in 1907. The first edition of the rally was won by Prince Borghese. This year the 130 participants departed from China on the 1st of June, driving their vintage cars. Thirty-five days later the 105 survivors enjoyed the triumph of crossing the finishing line on the Place Vendome in Paris.
Timothey Scott was driving a Mercedes 60 HP, while Peter Livanos was at the wheel of a 1929 Bentley 6.5 Tourer. The courageous men drove more than 12,000 kilometers, having demonstrated bravery, strong wheel and determination. Tomothey was admired for remarkable tenacity, while Peter showed great solidarity. The rally participants were driving across Mongolia, Asia, Siberia and Moscow. They celebrated their victory in the very heart of Paris at the special event held in the Blancpain Boutique located on the Rue de la Paix. The vintage cars, being more than a century old, having successfully passed the challenging route, were on display on the prestigious Place Vendome during the weekend.
Blancpain has developed ‘Peking to Paris’ special edition, inspired by the brand’s legendary Leman Flyback Grande Date Chronograph. The ‘Peking to Paris’, based upon Blancpain’s great expertise in developing high-end chronographs, was produced in a limited number corresponding to the number of the race participants. The timepiece features exceptional decorative touches. The sapphire crystal case-back offers the view to the solid gold oscillating weight showing the Rally logo. The yellow and red colors of the rally are demonstrated on the dial and strap stitching. The watches in the Peking to Paris limited series are destined to become rare and most-desirable collector’s items.
