Breitling has recently announced its decision to become the Red Bull Air Race’s official timekeeper. Throughout the season a plane with the brand’s colors will be flying during the competition.
The Breitling Company and the Red Bull manufacturer have signed a special agreement. Breitling has committed itself at serving as official timekeeper of RBAR – the Red Bull Air Race World Series. The companies agreed to maintain their partnership during an initial three-year period.
The Red Bull Air Race is organized in an unusual competition format attracting the most talented pilots in the world. The air race requires from its participants a great deal of talent, speed and precision. On an obstacle course every plane is individually timed. The course comprises a series of giddy ascents, tight turns, and sharp dives. These maneuvers imply technical difficulty, so only the pilots with honed skills and most sound stamina take the challenge of taking part in the competition.
The participants fly their planes at amazingly high speeds of up to 400 km/h . Sometimes they have to withstand gravitational forces of up to 10G. Such strenuous contest leaves space for no errors. It is organized on a quite compact course and the pilots fly their aircrafts low to the ground and close to onlookers.
The Red Bull Air Race is to include 11 races in the 2007 schedule. The event is forecast to attract the record number of spectators. The contest organized in Rio de Janeiro on April 21st, drew about one million Brazilians that came to Botafogo Bay, so the Red Bull Air Race became the biggest sports event in the history of the nation. The RBAR events are planed to be held on all five continents.
Breitling’s participation during the Red Bull Air Race series will imply not only timing the competition. Breitling colors will be flying high with Nigel Lamb, a British pilot to be at the controls of his MX2. Nigel Lamb heads the brand’s Angels aerobatics team. The pilot spent five seasons with the Breitling Fighters formation.
Breitling and the Red Bull Air Race are united by utmost performance, courage and precision.
